Cellulite Cure? | Body Contouring in Courtenay and Campbell River, BC
The science of cellulite, commonly treated areas and why not all body contouring technology is the same. Here’s everything you need to know about treating cellulite and body fat in Comox Valley.
For 98 percent of women, cellulite is just a reality we deal with. If you are opting for different shorts in the summer and giving yourself pep talks before stepping out in your swimsuit just because of cellulite, this article is for you.
Let us preface this entire article by saying you do not need to “fix your cellulite.” As mentioned, it’s more common to have cellulite than not. However, we are lucky enough to live in a time where technologies exist that give us the option to treat some of the cosmetic conditions causing us insecurities.
At Clinic 5 Collective in Comox Valley, we offer RF body contouring, which helps reduce unwanted body fat, improve skin laxity, and reduce the appearance of cellulite. With a series of eight non-invasive BodyFX sessions, you can achieve otherwise impossible results, even with your best efforts in the gym or kitchen.
What is cellulite? What are the most common areas for cellulite?
Cellulite is a cosmetic skin condition characterised by a puckered or dimpled texture, often likened to cottage cheese or an orange peel. It develops when fat cells enlarge and push upward against the skin while the fibrous bands tethering the skin to the underlying muscle pull downward. This tension between fat and connective tissue creates the uneven surface known as cellulite.
The condition is most noticeable on the thighs, hips, buttocks and lower abdomen. It is very common—between 80 % and 90 % of women experience some degree of cellulite after puberty, 98% of women will experience cellulite in their life (compared with fewer than 10 % of men). Hormones (particularly estrogen), genetics and differences in skin structure all influence how visible cellulite is. Women’s connective fibres tend to run in parallel rows, which allows fat lobules to protrude more easily; men’s fibres criss‑cross, which helps prevent dimpling. Age, weight gain, inactivity and pregnancy can also worsen its appearance.
Cellulite is not a sign of an underlying disease and it doesn’t affect physical health. Even very fit or lean people can have it. Because the exact cause is multifactorial and the connective‑tissue arrangement can’t be changed, there is no permanent “cure”; treatments and lifestyle changes may lessen its appearance temporarily but won’t eliminate it entirely.
Why diet and exercise help with cellulite reduction—and why they aren’t enough
Lifestyle influences how visible cellulite is, but no amount of exercise or dieting will completely erase it. You can be consistent with workouts, eating well, and taking care of your body—and still notice cellulite. Not because those habits don’t matter, but because cellulite isn’t just about fat. It’s about how fat, skin, and connective tissue interact beneath the surface. Exercise can help. Building muscle adds structure under the skin, and improved circulation can create a slightly smoother look. Nutrition plays a role too—supporting collagen, reducing inflammation, and keeping tissues hydrated all contribute to overall skin quality. But none of that fully changes the underlying structure. Even at a stable weight, even with strong muscle tone, dimpling can still be there.
At Clinic 5 Collective, we don’t separate lifestyle from treatment. Healthy habits create the foundation—and treatments like BodyFX build on it, helping to smooth and refine what diet and exercise alone can’t.
The science behind BodyFX
If you’ve been searching for cellulite treatment in Courtenay or non-invasive body contouring in the Comox Valley, Clinic 5 Collective offers BodyFX, a device designed specifically to address stubborn fat and cellulite.
BodyFX is designed to:
Improve the appearance of cellulite: by breaking down fat cells and tightening overlying skin.
Target small, localized fat deposits: ideal for sculpting areas like the abdomen, thighs or arms.
Support smoother, firmer skin: RF heating stimulates collagen production for better texture and tone.
It’s best suited for clients who feel close to where they want to be, but are looking to refine areas that haven’t fully responded to diet and exercise.
Using a combination of radiofrequency energy, controlled vacuum pressure, and high-voltage pulses, BodyFX works beneath the surface to stimulate collagen and induce changes in fat cells over time. The result is gradual tissue remodeling—meaning smoother skin, improved texture, and subtle contouring that builds with each session.
How does BodyFX work?
If you’re looking for cellulite treatment in Courtenay or non‑invasive body contouring in the Comox Valley, Clinic 5 Collective uses the industry’s advanced BodyFX system. This handheld device combines three technologies, radiofrequency (RF) energy, controlled vacuum pressure and high‑voltage pulses, to reshape small pockets of fat while improving skin tone.
As the handpiece gently lifts the skin with suction, it maintains even contact so RF energy can penetrate the deeper layers. This controlled heating tightens collagen and improves skin firmness. At the same time, very short bursts of high‑voltage electrical pulses deliver irreversible electroporation to the fat cells, triggering cellular breakdown. In peer‑reviewed studies, similar RF‑vacuum devices produced a 39 % reduction in fat thickness after a series of treatments and tightened skin by stimulating collagen.
BodyFX is best suited for clients who are close to their ideal shape but want to refine areas that haven’t fully responded to diet and exercise.
What can I expect during a BodyFX body contouring session?
BodyFX sessions are surprisingly relaxing! Our clients describe the treatment as a slightly warm and gentle pulling sensation as the radio-frequency and vacuum work to smooth out unwanted stubborn pockets of fat. With most clients typically choosing to target their torso, arms, tummy and thighs, you’re free to chat to your clinician or close your eyes and relax during the 50-minute session. Afterwards you can return to your day immediately; there is no major downtime associated with the BodyFX. Slight redness is common, returning to normal within hours. Very few clients may notice bruising or purpura that disappears like a normal bruise with time. (this is usually only after your first session).
How many BodyFX body contouring sessions will I need?
Based on clinical research, eight weekly sessions are recommended to achieve optimal fat reduction and skin‑tightening effects. For sustained body contouring and cellulite reduction, a single BodyFX session is not sufficient. This technology works gradually under your skin and requires a series of treatments. At Clinic 5 Collective, we care about your results more than filling our books. If you are unable to commit to the initial eight weeks of sessions due to scheduling conflicts, we may ask that you wait until you have availability. Questions? That’s literally what we are here for.
Who should avoid BodyFX?
BodyFX isn’t suitable for everyone. During your consultation at Clinic 5 Collective, we will ensure you don’t fall into one of the following categories:
Implanted electronics or metal in the treatment area: People with pacemakers, defibrillators or other electronic implants, or metal plates/screws in the target area.
Pregnant or breastfeeding: BodyFX is not recommended during pregnancy or while nursing.
Serious health or immune conditions: Those with uncontrolled heart or nerve disorders, severe hypertension, liver/kidney disease, uncontrolled diabetes, epilepsy or other serious illnesses, as well as people with weakened immune systems (e.g., due to AIDS/HIV, autoimmune disease or chemotherapy), should avoid this treatment.
Active skin problems or recent treatments: Avoid BodyFX if the target area has cold sores, warts, sores, psoriasis, eczema or is sunburned, or if you’ve had surgery or injection
Finally, BodyFX works best when supported by consistency outside the clinic. We encourage clients to achieve their optimal results by staying hydrated, strength training and regular movement and supporting skin health through nutrition
Before we move ahead with your body contouring session in Courtenay, we will ensure we are aligned with Just as important is setting realistic expectations. BodyFX is designed to improve the appearance of cellulite and contour—not completely eliminate it. The goal is smoother, more even skin that feels aligned with how you want to look.
Equally important is self‑compassion. Cellulite is natural, and it does not determine your worth. Our goal at Clinic 5 Collective is to provide scientific, non‑judgmental solutions for your concerns like BodyFX, not to tell you that you need to fix anything.
